Abstract:
Avoidable drug interactions are a frequent source of adverse effects in internal medicine, especially among patients with polymedication. This article reviews 10 common drug combinations that are associated with a significant clinical risk, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors-tramadol, statins-cytochrome P450 3A4 inhibitors, nitrates-phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors, and lithium-nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs/diuretics. For each interaction, the underlying mechanisms, clinical consequences, and practical recommendations are detailed. The goal is to support prescribers in making safer pharmacological decisions and improving the overall quality of care.
