Video Movement Analysis Using Smartphones ViMAS: A Pilot Study

Background:
A practical bedside device with videonystagmography (VNG)-like diagnostic capabilities could support clinical vestibular assessment.
Method:
A 3D-printed Smartphone Video-Frenzel Device (SVFD) featuring a magnetic mounting system was developed, allowing rapid attachment and removal. Frontal illumination from the smartphone flashlight suppressed ocular fixation (OF), and the macro camera enabled high-resolution video recording with superior torsional detail compared with VNG.
Conclusion:
The SVFD appears to be a feasible and accessible option for vestibular evaluation, combining effective OF suppression with high-quality video recording and a modifiable design, with future potential for quantitative nystagmus analysis.
