Computer-assisted vacuum thrombectomy (CAVT) using the Indigo System effectively treats acute proximal lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This study shows high technical success and low complication rates for the Lightning 12 and Flash 16 devices.
Area of Science:
- Vascular Surgery
- Interventional Radiology
- Thrombosis Management
Background:
- Acute proximal lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) poses significant risks.
- Effective treatment strategies are crucial for preventing long-term complications.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Indigo System's computer-assisted vacuum thrombectomy (CAVT) devices (Lightning 12 and Lightning Flash 16).
- To assess outcomes for acute proximal lower extremity DVT treatment at a single academic center.
Main Methods:
- Retrospective review of 24 patients (29 limbs) treated for acute DVT (<14 days) between January 2023 and September 2024.
- Utilized Lightning 12 and Lightning Flash 16 CAVT Indigo System devices.
- Technical success defined as >70% thrombus removal.
Main Results:
- High technical success rate achieved.
- No intraoperative complications reported.
- Low median Villalta and VCSS scores at 9-month follow-up, indicating minimal post-thrombotic syndrome.
Conclusions:
- The CAVT Indigo System is a safe and effective treatment for acute proximal lower extremity DVT.
- Both Lightning 12 and Lightning Flash 16 devices demonstrated comparable positive outcomes.
- The system offers a promising option for managing complex DVT cases.
