Background:
Tricalcium silicate-based intracanal dressing (TCS-dressing) is bioactive but difficult to remove completely from the root canal system. This study evaluated the efficacy of various irrigation activation techniques in the removal of TCS dressing from the root canal.
Materials And Methods:
Forty-four single-rooted mandibular premolars were instrumented to size 40.06 and filled with TCS-dressing. Specimens were randomly divided into four groups: conventional needle irrigation (NI), passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI), EDDY, and EndoActivator (EA). Residual dressing volumes were assessed using micro-computed tomography.
Results:
The EDDY group showed significantly greater removal of the dressing in the coronal, middle, and apical thirds compared to other groups. No significant differences were observed between NI, PUI, and EA. In all groups, the apical third showed the lowest amount of dressing removal.
Conclusion:
EDDY was the most effective technique for the removal of TCS-dressing across all levels of the root canal.
