Effect of Community-Based Older Adult Care Models on Mental Health: A Comprehensive Review

To evaluate available evidence on community-based older adult care interventions and their effects on depression, anxiety, and overall psychological strength.

The current review included 42 studies, which outlined the advantages, challenges, and prospects of community-based older adult mental health interventions.

Findings show that older adults with medium to high social and psychological stressors should be targeted with well-structured community-based programs to improve the quality of social and psychological engagement within this population. However, the full effect of these services is mitigated due to resource limitations, regulatory restrictions, and lack of willingness for cultural adaptation.

Community-based older adult care models demonstrated effectiveness in improving mental health outcomes; however, some challenges, such as inadequate resources and their allocation, policies, and cultural adaptation barriers, need reform. Future initiatives should focus on expanding training programs, integrating mental health into existing community services, and strengthening financial support for older adults.
