Summary

High-normal serum phosphorus levels are linked to increased cardiovascular events in type 2 diabetes patients. Even slight increases in phosphorus significantly raise the risk of cardiovascular events, independent of other risk factors.

  • Serum phosphorus is an independent predictor of cardiovascular events in this population.
  • Monitoring phosphorus levels may aid in cardiovascular risk assessment for type 2 diabetes patients.
