Navigating Bias on Medical Cannabis
1Ashley Turco Weber, MSN, CPNP-PC, is a pediatric nurse practitioner with experience in pediatric healthcare, clinical education, and academic education. She is dedicated to providing holistic care and making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families.
Abstract:
Cannabis has long been associated with recreational drug use, countercultural movements, criminal activity, and stigma. Conversely, growing evidence supports that medical cannabis can help with management of chronic pain and treatment-related symptoms. As medical cannabis becomes more widely accepted in healthcare, Christian nurses must navigate tensions between personal values and beliefs, biblical perspectives, cultural norms, laws, and institutional policies about cannabis as they offer holistic compassionate care for patients who use medical cannabis.
