Background:
Reports indicate that height significantly impacts bone health, which is a crucial factor in bone mineral density (BMD). The focus of this research was to examine the connection between standing height and total BMD among adolescents aged between 12 and 19.
Methods:
The independent link between standing and total BMD, as well as its nonlinearity, was investigated using data from the 2011-2018 NHANES. Weighted multiple linear regression and smooth curve fitting were employed for this purpose. Additional subgroup analyses were performed, and interactions were tested.
Results:
A link between standing height and total BMD in adolescents between 12 and 19 was shown to be significant and positive in multiple linear regression studies on a total of 6,963 individuals (β = 0.0066; 95% CI: 0.0064,0.0068; p < 0.0001). Analysis of nonlinear data demonstrated a positive association between standing height and total BMD, which was found to remain significant after correction for all variables. Moreover, additional sub-group analysis revealed that factors such as gender and age had a substantial impact on the relationship between standing height and overall BMD.
Conclusion:
Our analysis demonstrated a significant positive association between standing height and total BMD in adolescents aged 12 to 19.
