Abstract:
RNA extraction from five HBsAg-positive Cercopithecidae samples, followed by semi-nested PCR of the four overlapping regions of the HBV genome and phylogenetic analyses, yielded a complete HBV genome. This strain from a Cercopithecus preussi sample has close genetic proximity to isolates from Cameroonian great apes, suggesting cross-species transmission of HBV.
