Objectives:
to investigate the work process of nurses in relation to nursing consultations in childcare.
Methods:
exploratory research with a mixed approach, in which quantitative data were collected concomitantly with qualitative data. Nurses and managers were included in the research.
Results:
interviews were conducted with nine nurses and eight managers of Family Health Strategy units in the Central-West region of Minas Gerais. After analysis, four thematic categories emerged: Most common guidelines during childcare nursing consultations; Advances in childcare nursing consultations; Challenges in childcare nursing consultations; and Nurses' role in childcare consultations.
Final Considerations:
nurses are the professional interlocutors of actions involving child care and monitoring in the Health Care Network, but there are challenges that need to be overcome in order to improve coverage in the care of these children and their families, aiming for comprehensiveness and longitudinality.
