Abstract:
Anxiety is a natural, positive defense reaction to a real or imagined threat. When excessive and unregulated, it can develop into disorders that are detrimental to the individual. Preoperative anxiety is common and multifaceted; it must be recognized, assessed, and treated if necessary. Anesthesiologists have tools and procedures at their disposal that should be implemented. These contribute to the quality and safety of patient care.
