DeltaBreed is a new, species-agnostic breeding data management system. It uses Breeding API (BrAPI) standards for interoperability, supporting diverse crop and livestock programs.
Area of Science:
- Agricultural Science
- Bioinformatics
- Computational Biology
Background:
- Breeding programs require robust data management systems.
- Interoperability between different breeding software is crucial.
- Existing systems may lack species-agnostic capabilities.
Purpose of the Study:
- Introduce DeltaBreed, a unified breeding data management system.
- Describe DeltaBreed v1.0 features and BrAPI v2.1 compliance.
- Demonstrate interoperability with BrAPI-compliant applications.
Main Methods:
- Developed a RESTful microservice architecture for DeltaBreed.
- Utilized BrAPI v2.1 Java Test Server as the primary database.
- Implemented modules for germplasm, observation variables, experiments, genotypic data, and a genomic database.
Main Results:
- DeltaBreed v1.0 is a minimum viable product supporting diverse breeding data.
- Demonstrated successful interoperability with BrAPI-compliant software.
- The system supports polyploid, multiallelic, and SNP genomic data.
Conclusions:
- DeltaBreed is the first species-agnostic, fully BrAPI-compliant system for transactional breeding data management.
- The system facilitates data capture and validation aligned with community standards.
- Future versions will address limitations and expand functionality.
