Abstract:
New research finds that the F-pilus, a key component of the bacterial conjugation apparatus, fundamentally restructures biofilms and confers enhanced resilience to antibiotics and phages. However, this local advantage comes at the cost of dramatically reducing the dispersal of plasmid-carrying cells, highlighting a critical trade-off between local benefits and global spread.
