Introduction:
Two patients, aged 72 years and 36 years, who underwent neurosurgical intervention using hemostatic materials intraoperatively, presented with clinical deterioration. Imaging demonstrated in both case collections were suspicious for abscess. In light of the clinical presentation and imaging findings, the patients underwent urgent repeat interventions in which sterile collections were found with surrounding brain edema, and in one case, the formation of granulomatous tissue at the surgical site. No macroscopic or laboratory evidence of an infectious process was found in either of the cases.
