Summary

The glymphatic system clears waste in the brain, but its dysfunction, marked by inflammation and impaired fluid exchange, accelerates neurodegenerative diseases. Therapeutic strategies targeting glial metabolism and vascular health may restore glymphatic function.

Area of Science:

  • Neuroscience
  • Immunology
  • Cellular Biology

Background:

  • The glymphatic system is crucial for central nervous system waste removal.
  • Impairment of the glymphatic system is associated with neuroinflammation and disease progression.
