Fiber Post and Core Build-up in Endodontically Treated Severely Mutilated Tooth: A Case Report

Restoring endodontically treated teeth with extensive coronal loss often necessitates the use of post and core systems, with fiber posts increasingly favored for their biomechanical compatibility with natural dentin. This case report presents the clinical use of prefabricated glass fiber posts and a resin composite core to rehabilitate a severely damaged maxillary anterior tooth. A 24-year-old male reported with trauma-induced fracture of tooth #11, leaving it unsuitable for conventional restorative approaches. The treatment plan included root canal therapy followed by placement of a fiber post, core build-up, and final restoration using a porcelain-fused-to-metal crown. Clinical procedures involved root canal preparation, appropriate fiber post selection, adhesive luting, core build-up with composite resin, and crown placement, all performed with strict adherence to bonding protocols to achieve optimal durability. The case highlights the advantages of fiber post systems, including favorable stress distribution, reduced incidence of root fractures, and improved esthetics compared to metallic posts. Potential challenges such as debonding and adhesive failure emphasize the need for precise technique. The successful outcome in this patient demonstrates that fiber post and core restorations provide a reliable, aesthetically pleasing, and biomechanically sound solution for the rehabilitation of severely compromised teeth.
