Background:

Food and nutrition security gaps identified in Michigan.
Need for increased acceptance of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) at community-supported agriculture (CSA) sites.
Requirement for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) nutrition education.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop nutrition education resources for SNAP recipients at Michigan Farm to Family: CSA (MF2FCSA) sites.
To inform resource development through a community-involved process.
To enhance collaboration between SNAP-Ed staff and CSA sites.

Main Methods:

A community-involved process was employed by the Michigan Fitness Foundation (MFF).
Methods included a listening session with SNAP-Ed staff, a brainstorming session with MFF staff, and a shopper survey.
Collaboration strategies and feedback loops were utilized.

Main Results:

Educators need autonomy in selecting context-specific nutrition education activities.
Strong relationships between nutrition educators and CSA staff are crucial for effective communication and education delivery.
A resource, the CSA Food Navigator Playbook, was developed.

Conclusions:

The community-involved process successfully informed the development of the CSA Food Navigator Playbook.
The playbook offers flexible and feasible nutrition education activities tailored to MF2FCSA shoppers.
Collaboration and understanding local needs are key to successful nutrition education program development.
