Abstract:
The telocyte, a cell long neglected, is now being investigated in several organs. These cells have a unique morphology with a shape that varies according to the number of telopods -the long cell extensions ranging from two to five per cell. This morphology suggests specific functions, some of which remain to be confirmed. The presence of telocytes in the testis suggests their involvement in regulating endocrine and exocrine functions specific to this organ. This article summarizes the current knowledge about this unique cell and its potential roles in the testis.
