Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between HDL-c levels and the risk of vascular events.
  • To evaluate the impact of HDL-c on functional prognosis in patients following ischemic stroke.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective observational study of 865 ischemic stroke patients followed for 1 year.
  • Patients stratified into three groups based on HDL-c tertiles (<47 mg/dL, 47-60 mg/dL, >60 mg/dL).
  • Primary outcome: Major adverse cardiovascular events; Secondary outcome: Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score.

Main Results:

  • No significant difference in major adverse cardiovascular events across HDL-c tertiles (17.5%, 11.2%, 12.4%).

  • Higher HDL-c levels (tertile 3 vs. tertile 1) independently predicted favorable functional outcomes (mRS 0-2) at 3 months (aOR 1.71) and 1 year (aOR 1.60).

Conclusions:

  • HDL-c levels are not correlated with vascular event risk in stroke patients.
  • Elevated HDL-c concentrations are associated with improved functional recovery post-stroke.
