Background:

Autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) and vitiligo are common autoimmune conditions.
The potential association between AITD and vitiligo requires further investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the prevalence of thyroid autoantibodies in adult patients with vitiligo compared to healthy controls.

Main Methods:

Measurement of anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) and anti-thyroglobulin (anti-TG) antibody levels.
Comparison of antibody levels between vitiligo patients and matched control groups.

Main Results:

Vitiligo subjects exhibited a significantly higher prevalence of thyroid autoantibodies than the control group.
This finding suggests a potential etiological link between vitiligo and AITD.

Conclusions:

Routine thyroid screening is recommended for patients diagnosed with vitiligo.
Further longitudinal studies are warranted to elucidate the relationship between these autoimmune conditions.
