This study introduces a novel video summarization method using distance metrics to reduce dataset size while preserving temporal details. Norm of rows distance offers a good balance of efficiency and accuracy for computer vision tasks.
Area of Science:
- Computer Vision
- Machine Learning
Background:
- Video classification categorizes video content, addressing spatiotemporal dimensions and large data volumes.
- Existing methods face challenges in efficiently managing video data while retaining crucial temporal information.
Purpose of the Study:
- To introduce a novel distance metric-based video summarization technique.
- To minimize dataset size while preserving key temporal information for video analysis.
Main Methods:
- Developed a video summarization technique utilizing various distance metrics, including norm of rows, norm of columns, and eigenvalue-based distances.
- Evaluated performance on benchmark datasets: MMAC, UCF101, UCF11, and HMDB51.
- Continuously tracked temporal information by recalculating distances from key frames.
Main Results:
- The norm of rows distance metric demonstrated superior performance, balancing efficiency and accuracy.
- Achieved significant accuracy on MMAC, UCF101, UCF11, and HMDB51 datasets.
- The method effectively preserves temporal information during summarization.
Conclusions:
- The proposed distance metric-based video summarization is effective for reducing data size and maintaining temporal integrity.
- Lower computational demands make the approach suitable for real-world computer vision applications.
- Norm of rows distance is a promising metric for efficient and accurate video summarization.
