Abstract:
Thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAAs) are very uncommon in pediatric patients, with mycotic TAAs even more atypical. We report the case of a 2-month-old boy with incidental findings of a TAA after treatment for prior endocarditis. Extensive infectious disease and genetic testing were unremarkable. TAA open repair and patch aortoplasty with a pulmonary artery allograft was performed. The patient was discharged on antibiotic prophylaxis, aspirin, and diuretic treatment and achieved complete recovery by the 30-day follow-up.
Insights
A rare mycotic thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) was found in a 2-month-old boy. Surgical repair was successful, with the infant recovering fully after treatment for endocarditis.
