Abstract:
Sensory nerves play unexpectedly important roles in bone growth and homeostasis-but do they also support skeletal stem cells (SSCs) in bone marrow? In this issue of Developmental Cell, Wu et al.1 identify a p75NTR-osteopontin axis that supports SSC maintenance and osteogenic activity, revealing sensory nerves as key regulators of bone marrow SSCs.
