Abstract:
Designing molecular architectures that simultaneously deliver high energy density and good detonation performance remains a central challenge in the development of advanced energetic materials. Here, we demonstrate a molecular design strategy that integrates an N,N'-azo linkage and N-nitramino functionalities within a triazolone framework, yielding a new class of two high-energy-density compounds (2 and 3). Their structures were confirmed by NMR, IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Notably, compound 3 exhibits an excellent detonation performance (Dv = 9457 m s-1, P = 39.2 GPa). Overall, this work demonstrates a design principle for coupling nitrogen-chain extension with nitramino substitution, which may contribute to the development of energetic compounds with improved detonation performance.

1° Amines to Diazonium or Aryldiazonium Salts: Diazotization with NaNO2 Overview
The nitrous acid is unstable. Hence, it is formed in situ from a solution of sodium nitrite and cold aqueous acids such as hydrochloric or sulfuric acid. In an acidic solution, the –OH group of nitrous acid undergoes protonation to give oxonium ion, followed by...

As shown below, the mechanism involves three steps. Firstly, the hydride ion acting as a nucleophile attacks the nitrile carbon to form an anion. In the second step, a second equivalent of the hydride ion attacks the anion to...

Preparation of 1° Amines: Azide Synthesis
Azide ions act as good nucleophiles and react with unhindered alkyl halides to form alkyl azides. Alkyl azides do not participate in further nucleophilic substitution reactions, thereby eliminating the chances of polyalkylated products. Alkyl azides are reduced by hydride-based reducing agents, like lithium aluminum...
