The prevalence of Hepatocystis kochi in African green monkeys
Abstract:
The prevalence of Hepatocystis kochi was studied in 178 African green monkeys from Kenya and 61 from Ethiopia. Examinations of blood smears for gametocytes and examinations of the livers for merocysts were performed to determine the presence of infection in these animals. The overall prevalence of infection was 29%. No significant difference in infection rate was found between monkeys from the different geographic areas or between males and females.
