Methods Of Healthcare Delivery System01:26

Methods Of Healthcare Delivery System

4.2K
At the different levels of the healthcare system, we see varying methods of healthcare used. These methods include managed care systems, case management, and primary healthcare.
Managed Care System:
The managed care system is designed to control the cost while maintaining the quality of care. The patient's care from admission to discharge is planned by the primary care provider or the case manager, also known as the gatekeeper. In a managed care system, the number of care providers is...

Regression Toward the Mean01:52

Regression Toward the Mean

7.2K
Regression toward the mean (“RTM”) is a phenomenon in which extremely high or low values—for example, and individual’s blood pressure at a particular moment—appear closer to a group’s average upon remeasuring. Although this statistical peculiarity is the result of random error and chance, it has been problematic across various medical, scientific, financial and psychological applications. In particular, RTM, if not taken into account, can interfere when...

Teratogenicity01:07

Teratogenicity

4.3K
The ability of a drug to produce structural deformations and functional abnormalities in the developing embryo or the fetus is called teratogenicity, and the drug producing this effect is known as a teratogen. Teratogenic effects include stillbirth, miscarriage, intrauterine growth restriction, and neurocognitive delay. A teratogen may affect the embryo at different stages of development, which is important in determining the type and extent of the damage. During blastocyst formation, the early...

Infertility in Females01:28

Infertility in Females

4.9K
Female infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after a year of regular, unprotected intercourse and affects about 10–15% of couples worldwide. The primary cause of female infertility is ovulatory disorders, which hinder the release of eggs. These disorders can be classified as hypothalamic amenorrhea, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), premature ovarian failure, and hyperprolactinemic anovulation disorders.
Endometriosis, a condition characterized by abnormal growth of...

Environmental Influences on Intelligence01:29

Environmental Influences on Intelligence

1.0K
Despite the strong genetic influence on traits like intelligence, environmental factors significantly shape outcomes. For example, while over 90% of height variation is due to genetic differences, environmental factors such as nutrition also have a notable impact. Similarly, for intelligence, changes in a child's surroundings can significantly alter their IQ. Research shows that enriched environments boost children's academic success and help them develop key cognitive skills. Children...

Levels of Health Promotion and Illness Prevention01:26

Levels of Health Promotion and Illness Prevention

15.1K
Health promotion allows a person to control the determinants of health, resulting in an improved health status. It enhances the quality of life and reduces premature deaths. Health promotion and illness prevention programs help people make beneficial choices to reduce the risk of disease and disabilities. There are three health promotion and illness prevention levels: primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
In primary prevention, actions taken before disease onset prevent the disease from...

Area of Science:

  • Public Health
  • Socioeconomic Determinants of Health
  • Maternal Health

Background:

  • District-level Human Development Index (HDI) disparities in Indonesia may impact maternal health and public health initiatives.
  • The Triple Elimination Program aims to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B, but its coverage is uneven.
  • Understanding the link between socioeconomic factors and program implementation is crucial for improving maternal and child health outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the association between the Human Development Index (HDI) of districts in East Java and the implementation of the Triple Elimination Program.
  • To determine if socioeconomic well-being influences the success of preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional study analyzed secondary data from all 38 districts in East Java Province from January to December 2023.
  • Data on HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B screening were obtained from the Provincial Health Information System and Statistics Indonesia HDI.
  • Spearman's rank correlation was used to analyze the relationship between district-level HDI and program implementation, adhering to STROBE guidelines.

Main Results:

  • Screening rates for syphilis, HIV, and Hepatitis B among pregnant women in East Java showed significant variation across districts.
  • Syphilis screening rates ranged from 10.9% to 148.4% (mean 78.5%), HIV screening rates from 9.2% to 118.3% (mean 79.6%), and Hepatitis B screening rates from 59.8% to 118.5% (mean 80.2%).
  • No significant association was found between district-level HDI and the implementation of the Triple Elimination Program.

Conclusions:

  • District-level Human Development Index (HDI) was not significantly associated with the implementation of the Triple Elimination Program in East Java.
  • Screening performance for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B may be more influenced by health system factors than socioeconomic conditions.
  • Improved data accuracy and local reporting systems are needed to enhance program coverage and address limitations in current estimates.
