This study reports the first successful resection of a rare posterior mediastinal Müllerian duct cyst using video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) with an upside-down monitor. This novel VATS approach offers excellent visualization for complex thoracic surgeries.
Area of Science:
- Thoracic Surgery
- Surgical Oncology
- Pathology
Background:
- Müllerian duct cysts are rare, typically found in the vaginal wall or near the prostate.
- Posterior mediastinal Müllerian duct cysts are exceptionally rare and challenging to diagnose preoperatively.
- Imaging findings often mimic more common posterior mediastinal lesions like neurogenic tumors or bronchogenic cysts.
