Abstract:
In this study, Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/magnesium oxide (MgO) nanocomposites were fabricated using the solution-casting technique, incorporating 0-30 wt% MgO nanoparticles into the PMMA matrix. The study focused on photon energies between 60 and 1333 keV to assess the materials' shielding effectiveness. The density of the samples increased from 2.729 g/cm3 for pure PMMA to 3.899 g/cm3 for PMMA/30MgO. The highest linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) value (1.353 cm-1 at 60 keV) and lowest half-value layer (HVL) (0.512 cm) were obtained for PMMA/30MgO, confirming enhanced gamma attenuation with increasing MgO content.
