Abstract:
All people deserve adequate health care and representation in research to ensure that their assessments, treatments, and services are effective. Historically, priority populations have endured the greatest inequities and disparities in healthcare access, quality, and outcomes. Priority populations include, but are not limited to, racial/ethnic minorities, women, older adults, rural residents, persons living in poverty, and persons with disabilities. A core mission of the Betty Irene Moore (BIM) Fellowship Program, started in 2020, was to develop nurses as catalysts in resolving healthcare deficiencies through bold leadership and innovation. The authors describe priority populations of interest among BIM fellows and how their fellowship-funded projects are tailored and targeted to advance health equity. This paper issues a call to action to sustain and expand programs to assist underserved and underrepresented populations, especially given the 2025 sociopolitical landscape, and to advocate for optimal health and well-being of all.
