Mentorship for nurse leaders and innovators: The Betty Irene Moore Fellowship Program mentor perspectives

The Betty Irene Moore Fellowship for Nurse Leaders and Innovators emphasized multifaceted mentorship to accelerate the leadership and professional growth of early to mid-career fellows.

To describe implementation of mentorship in the fellowship program from the program mentors' perspectives, explore mentors' experiences, describe fellowship approaches to improving mentor experiences, and enhance understanding of mentorship for early to mid-career nurse scientists.

Mentor perspectives were gathered through annual program evaluation surveys and minutes from mentor interactions. Analyses included descriptive statistics and exploratory qualitative review.

During 2024, 79 mentors were active and reported high self-assessment of mentorship skills. Mentors rated the overall experience and relationship strength with mentees as good to excellent. Challenges included time, mentor expectations, and logistics.

The Fellowship fostered mentee skill development while concurrently supporting mentors to advance early to mid-career mentees. The Fellowship created a supportive community of mentors and advanced mentorship science through meaningfully designed interactions.
