Abstract:
Using new technologies can improve the quality of medical education. These technologies are beneficial for adding auditory, touch, and olfactory senses to education. We aim to review the current trends and available technological tools that can aid medical education in growing and expanding quality than before. This umbrella review was done to provide information regarding applying new technologies in medical education. The search was done in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science in October 2024. From the set of cases mentioned in this review, it was found that peer-assisted learning contributes to enhancements in the acquisition of clinical knowledge. Active learning facilitated by peer-assisted learning should be considered a valuable complement to teacher-led approaches. In the survey of this review, solutions such as augmented reality, artificial intelligence, creating self-regulation and upgrading the digital level, and wearable biosensors through new technologies were mentioned. Increasing digitalization in the healthcare environment requires experienced healthcare professionals who lack technological literacy. Based on this evidence, educators and policymakers must prioritize integrating recent technologies into medical education. This study highlights the need for further research to explore the effectiveness of new technologies in different aspects of medical education.
