Preparation of Porous MOF-Polymer Composites via High Internal Phase Pickering Emulsions for Dye Adsorption

Abstract:
A versatile strategy for fabricating hierarchically porous monoliths was established using UiO-66/TOCNC metal-organic framework composites as stabilizers for pickering emulsions. Polymeric materials produced from high internal phase emulsions (polyHIPEs) using this approach offer scalable and mild processing conditions. The MOF composite particles, synthesized on oxidized cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), effectively stabilized emulsions and enabled the synthesis of porous monoliths. Characterization with TGA, X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM, BET, and FT-IR confirmed the structure and properties of both the MOF composite particles as well as the polyHIPEs materials. The fabricated polyHIPE materials exhibited high methylene blue dye adsorption from wastewater, with a capacity of 241 mg g-1.
