Exsolvable LaFe0.9Ru0.1O3 perovskite mixed oxides with a specific surface area of 270 m2·g-1 are prepared via nano-casting (infiltration), using porous Amberlite XAD16 polymer beads infiltrated with metal nitrate precursors, followed by a dedicated drying and annealing protocol up to 750°C. This results in a hierarchical, nanoporous structure of LaFe0.9Ru0.1O3 (LFRO_if). Primary particles with an average diameter of 23 nm form 500 nm thick rods organized in 0.3 mm large microspheres. Ru exsolution of this perovskite material LFRO_if by reduction at 500°C with H2 leads to a supported catalyst with small Ru particles (mean diameter: 2-3 nm) socketed to the parent oxide. This catalyst exhibits superior catalytic performance in the catalytic propane combustion compared to sol-gel-prepared LaFe0.9Ru0.1O3 particles.
