Abstract:
In the Clinical and Translational Report in Cell Host & Microbe, Deng et al. reveal that early infant gut microbiome states predict later changes in maternal milk nutrients and metabolites, uncovering developmentally timed feedback within the mother-infant dyad. This study challenges the prevailing unidirectional model of milk-driven microbial assembly.
