A patient experienced severe allergic reactions to docetaxel, a chemotherapy drug. Allergy tests were inconclusive, highlighting the poor predictive value of skin tests for taxane hypersensitivity.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Allergology
- Pharmacology
Background:
- A patient with advanced prostate cancer and HIV experienced hypersensitivity during docetaxel re-administration.
- Elevated tryptase and IL-6 levels indicated an allergic reaction.
- The patient was switched to cabazitaxel due to disease progression and suspected docetaxel allergy.
