Abstract:
The enteric virome, long overshadowed by bacteriome studies, is emerging as a direct modulator of host physiology. In this issue of Cell Host & Microbe, Lin and colleagues demonstrate that the enteric virome autonomously regulates carbohydrate metabolism through dual signaling, with the net metabolic outcome determined by adaptive immune surveillance.
