    Background:

    • Stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing is increasingly used for fabricating dental models.
    • Ensuring the dimensional stability of these models is crucial for accurate orthodontic appliance fabrication.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the dimensional stability of dental models produced via SLA 3D printing over time.
    • To determine the impact of storage duration on the accuracy of 3D printed orthodontic models.

    Main Methods:

    • Twelve resin dental models were fabricated using an SLA 3D printer.
    • Over 4700 dimensional measurements were taken at eight timepoints, from immediate post-printing to 6 months.
    • Measurements included intermolar distance, intercanine distance, and mesiodistal tooth size.

    Main Results:

    • Significant time-dependent changes were observed in transverse distances and mesiodistal tooth sizes.
    • These dimensional changes, specifically reductions, became statistically significant after 7 days of printing.
    • No significant interactions were found between time and arch, side, or measurement type.

    Conclusions:

    • SLA 3D printed models exhibit high dimensional accuracy for immediate clinical applications, such as aligner fabrication.
    • Delayed use or extended storage of these models can lead to distortions.
    • These distortions may compromise the fit of orthodontic appliances and overall treatment efficacy.
