Evaluation of Challenges Faced by Endodontists in Multiple Visits While Performing Endodontic Retreatment: A Clinical

Objective:
To evaluate the challenges encountered by endodontists during multiple-visit endodontic retreatment procedures and to explore potential strategies for overcoming these issues.
Methods:
A prospective clinical study was conducted on 100 patients requiring endodontic retreatment at a tertiary dental care center. Retreatment procedures were performed over three visits, and data on procedural difficulties, patient compliance, and clinical outcomes were collected using structured questionnaires and clinical observations. Statistical analysis was conducted to identify associations between challenges and treatment outcomes.
Results:
The most common procedural challenges included difficulty in canal identification (72%), postremoval (68%), and handling calcified canals (47%). Patient-related challenges, such as anxiety (54%) and compliance issues, significantly affected treatment timelines. Technological advancements such as rotary instrumentation and ultrasonic activation improved procedural efficiency but required substantial training and investment. Successful healing was observed in 82% of cases, with delayed or persistent pathology in the remaining.
Conclusion:
Multiple-visit endodontic retreatments pose significant challenges, primarily due to procedural complexities and patient-related factors. Integrating advanced technologies, clinician expertise, and patient-centered care strategies can improve treatment efficiency and outcomes.
