Evaluation of Patients Perspectives on Dental Implants and Bone Graft Surgery

Aim:
To evaluate patient's perspective on dental implants and bone grafts.
Materials And Methods:
A series of 50 consecutive patients looking for implant treatment were included in the city. Patients who had past history of implant surgery and also local or systemic contraindications to the same were excluded. The study included 21 men and 29 women, aged 18-60 years. Participants were categorized by profession, including self-employed individuals, freelancers, executives, students, civil servants, white collar workers and retirees. Data analysis was done using SSPS software.
Results:
The survey revealed high patient expectations for dental implants, with 54% accepting bone grafts-72% preferring retromolar and 32% chin harvesting-while 53% opted for synthetic substitutes and 72% supported guided surgery at extra cost. Additionally, many held misconceptions: 54% believed fixed dentures need implants, 42% thought grafting was essential, 51% deemed implants unsuitable for themselves, and 49% considered a CT scan mandatory.
Conclusion:
Patients have high expectations for implant longevity and success but show varying acceptance of treatment procedures.
