Insights
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) was successfully performed using a transaortic approach in a patient with a rare circumflex aortic arch anomaly. This represents the first documented case of TAVR in this specific anatomical variation.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Congenital Heart Disease
- Interventional Cardiology
Background:
- Circumflex aortic arch is a rare congenital anomaly affecting aortic arch anatomy.
- Management of aortic valve disease in patients with complex aortic arch anomalies presents unique challenges.
Purpose of the Study:
- To describe the first case of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in a patient with a circumflex aortic arch.
- To illustrate the feasibility and approach for TAVR in this rare anatomical variant.
Main Methods:
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure.
- Transaortic access technique.
- Management of circumflex aortic arch anatomy during TAVR.
Main Results:
- Successful implantation of a transcatheter aortic valve.
- Favorable procedural outcome without major complications.
- Demonstration of a viable transaortic approach for TAVR in circumflex aortic arch.
Conclusions:
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is feasible in patients with circumflex aortic arch.
- The transaortic approach can be utilized for TAVR in this rare anomaly.
- This case expands the understanding of TAVR in complex congenital aortic arch variations.
Abstract:
Circumflex aortic arch is a rare congenital anomaly. This case describes transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) via a transaortic approach, and to our knowledge is the first case of TAVR in a patient with circumflex aortic arch.
