Personality Disorders among Patients with Premature Ejaculation Attending In A Tertiary Care Hospital

Background:

• Premature ejaculation (PE) is a prevalent male sexual dysfunction.
• Personality disorders (PDs) affect a significant portion of the general population and can predispose individuals to other psychiatric conditions.

Purpose of the Study:

• To determine the prevalence and types of PDs in patients with PE.
• To explore variations in PDs based on socio-demographic factors among PE patients.

• Premature ejaculation was assessed using the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT).

• 37.1% of PE patients exhibited PDs, with Cluster C disorders being most common.
• Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) was the most prevalent subtype (63.6% within Cluster C), followed by Avoidant PD (39.4%).
• 41.0% of patients with lifelong PE had a co-occurring PD, predominantly Cluster C.

Conclusions:

• A significant proportion of PE patients suffer from PDs, especially Cluster C disorders.
• OCPD is the most frequent PD found in PE patients.
• Further research is necessary to establish a direct causal relationship between PD and PE.
