Abstract:
Clinical evidence demonstrates that the relationship between central obesity and diabetes is significant than the relationship between generalized obesity and diabetes. Given that the purpose of this study was to examine the waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI) and waist to height ratio (WHtR) of type 2 diabetics and non-diabetics persons. This cross-sectional analytical study was carried out from March 2019 to March 2020 in the Anatomy Department of Chittagong Medical College, Chattogram, upon one hundred Types 2 diabetic patients and on same number of non-diabetic persons. Anthropometric measurements were taken by using various equipments. All required parameters such as height, weight and waist circumference were recorded in a predesigned case-record form. BMI and WHtR were derived from previous measurements. Measurements were expressed as frequency, mean and standard deviation and an unpaired student's t test was used to compare them. Data were analyzed by SPSS (version 26.0). Finally, the results were presented by using table and figure and p values were found significant if they were less than 0.05 at the 95% level of confidence. The following anthropometric factors showed significant differences when the measures were compared: weight (p<0.001), waist circumference (p<0.001), BMI (p<0.001) and waist to height ratio (p<0.001). Type 2 diabetic patients were significantly overweight and had a broader waist circumference than the non-diabetic individuals. The results of current investigations showed that Type 2 diabetes patients and those without the disease have substantial disparities in their anthropometric measurements.
