The Chiba Interprofessional Competency Scale (CICS29) was successfully adapted into Turkish (CICS29-TR). This validated tool measures interprofessional collaboration competencies in Turkish healthcare students.
Area of Science:
- Health Professions Education
- Interprofessional Collaboration
- Psychometrics
Background:
- Interprofessional collaboration is crucial for effective healthcare delivery.
- Assessing interprofessional competencies requires validated instruments.
- The Chiba Interprofessional Competency Scale (CICS29) is a recognized measure.
Purpose of the Study:
- To translate and culturally adapt the CICS29 into Turkish.
- To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version (CICS29-TR).
- To establish CICS29-TR as a reliable tool for assessing interprofessional competencies in Turkey.
Main Methods:
- Multistep translation and expert review process for cultural adaptation.
- Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) on data from 332 health profession students.
- Internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) and content validity index (CVI) were assessed.
Main Results:
- EFA identified a six-factor structure aligning with the original CICS29, explaining 57.65% of variance.
- CFA confirmed the model fit with acceptable indices.
- High internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha: 0.86–0.91) and a CVI of 0.915 were achieved.
Conclusions:
- The Turkish version of the CICS29 (CICS29-TR) demonstrates robust psychometric properties.
- CICS29-TR is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing interprofessional competencies in Turkish healthcare.
- The scale can be utilized to monitor interprofessional education programs within the Turkish healthcare system.
