Abstract:
Cellulose nanofiber (CNF) is an excellent template, while Carbon dots (CDs), as zero-dimensional nanomaterials with outstanding characteristics, offer potential when composited with CNF. However, conventional synthesis of CDs/CNF composites suffer from inefficiency and poor interfacial compatibility. In this study, an innovative, green and efficient approach to synthesize CDs/CNF composite films using cold plasma (CP) treatment on CNF templates was proposed. Carboxyl groups on CNF were activated to anchor o-phenylenediamine, which were then converted into CDs via CP-induced reactions at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. This one-pot process avoided high temperatures and complex purification. The obtained films exhibited strong antioxidant activity (38.4% DPPH and 85.6% ABTS radical scavenging rates), UV blocking rate 75.0%, and antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. In mango preservation tests, the film maintained quality and extended shelf life by approximately 4 days at room temperature. This work provided a novel route for active packaging materials.
