Abstract:
This study updates the lethality (LD50) and venom yield data for Costa Rican snakes, including both Elapidae and Viperidae families, endemic species, and juveniles. Using CD-1 mice, the venom yields and LD50 values reveal notable differences from previous studies and highlights the impact of sex, age, and geographic origin on venom characteristics. These updated metrics are crucial for antivenom manufacturing, dosing algorithms, and understanding ontogenetic shifts in venom composition.
