A nanoporous hygroscopic pectin-based sorbent for atmospheric water harvesting

Abstract:
A porous hygroscopic biopolymeric sorbent (PTPA) composed of biocompatible polysaccharide pectate (PT) functionalised with polyacrylic acid (PA) was developed, exhibiting enhanced water uptake of 3.8 g g-1 at 99% RH and efficient release. The synergistic molecular structure and functional groups of the PTPA enable humidity capture, high storage capacity, rapid vapor release and efficient regeneration within 120 min upon exposure to 1 kW m-2 solar simulator irradiation.
