None:
Although WUSCHEL-related homeobox (WOX) 11-mediated regulation of adventitious root growth is well-established, the functional significance of antisense transcripts remains incompletely elucidated. Aquilaria sinensis (Lour.) Gilg is a fragrant, resin-rich timber with significant commercial importance and serves as a critical plant resource for agarwood production.
Objective:
To investigate the functional role of anti-AsWOX11, an antisense transcript-derived peptide of WOX11, in root development and volatile compound biosynthesis in A. sinensis.
Methods:
Anti-AsWOX11 was synthesized and evaluated using transgenic A. sinensis lines and Arabidopsis thaliana for functional validation.
Key Findings:
Anti-AsWOX11 significantly enhances adventitious root growth in A. sinensis; transcriptomic and proteomic analyses indicate modulation of hormone signaling and root developmental regulatory networks; anti-AsWOX11 modulates the synthesis of volatile metabolites, inducing novel components α-gurjunene and α-cedrene.
Conclusion:
Anti-AsWOX11 functions as a promotive regulator of root development and secondary metabolism, providing new insights into antisense-derived peptide functions and a theoretical basis for molecular breeding and resource utilization of A. sinensis.
