Background:

The General Pediatrics Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) were established in 2013 to define general pediatrician practice.
EPAs serve as a framework for residency training outcomes, emphasizing patient needs and evolving healthcare demands.

Purpose of the Study:

To comprehensively review and update the General Pediatrics EPA framework.
To ensure EPAs reflect contemporary practice and support competency-based medical education.

Main Methods:

A multidisciplinary team, including pediatricians, program directors, trainees, and public members, conducted the revision.
Input was gathered through volunteer contributions and surveys from over 1000 program directors and general pediatricians.

Main Results:

The 17 original EPAs were revised and consolidated into 12 clear, specific, and contemporary General Pediatrics EPAs.
The revised EPAs, including essential cross-cutting knowledge, skills, and abilities, were approved by the American Board of Pediatrics in June 2025.

Conclusions:

The revised EPAs reaffirm the essential work of general pediatrics.
This updated framework supports a competency-based approach to training and lifelong learning focused on children's needs.
