Complete Resolution of Morton's Neuroma Following Nd:YAG 1064 nm Laser Treatment: A Case Report
Objective:
The objective of this study was to retrospectively assess for changes in appearance of a Morton's neuroma before and after Nd:YAG 1064 nm high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) using MR Imaging.
Methods:
A retrospective review was performed of a patient who underwent MR Imaging for a symptomatic Morton's neuroma before and greater than 2 years after HILT. MR images were reviewed and correlated with the patient's clinical history.
Results:
Analysis of MR imaging of a Morton's neuroma prior to and following HILT showed complete resolution of the treated Morton's neuroma within the 3rd intermetatarsal space. After HILT, the sharp and burning pain had resolved along with the sensation of a pebble in the ball of her foot.
Conclusion:
Early adoption of Nd:YAG 1064 nm HILT for perineural fibrosis associated with Morton's neuroma may offer a significant reduction of scarring around the common digital nerve resulting in improvement in symptoms and quality of life while allowing patients to remain active during treatment. Further studies of HILT for this pathology are warranted.
