Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), also known as mucopolysaccharides, are long and linear polymers comprising of specific repeating disaccharides - the amino sugar that can be N-acetylglucosamine or N-acetylgalactosamine, and a uronic acid that is usually glucuronic acid or iduronic acid.
GAGS are found in the extracellular matrix of vertebrates, invertebrates, and bacteria. Due to their polar nature they attract water, and serve as excellent lubricants or shock absorbers in an animal body.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the short-term relationship between patient perception and measurable volume loss in different facial areas.
    • To assess long-term patient satisfaction and future treatment-seeking behavior following HA filler injections.

    • Prospective study involving 101 female patients (ages 40-65) receiving HA fillers in four facial regions.
    • Utilized FACE-Q surveys and 3D imaging at baseline, post-injection, and at 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 3 months.

    • Patient satisfaction with HA fillers frequently exceeds objective volume duration in specific facial areas.
    • Findings suggest that perceived aesthetic benefits may persist longer than measurable filler correction.
    • Results can inform patient-provider discussions regarding optimal treatment timing and frequency for different facial zones.
